Factors Regulating Blood Pressure
نویسنده
چکیده
This book is the latest edition of the series which report verbatim the papers presented at the annual meetings of small groups of competent investigators in a variety of medical fields. Informality and theorizing aloud are the keynotes, and account for much of the book's value and great readability. The names of the participants are well known in the field of medicine -F. W. Hoffbauer, Cecil J. Watson, C. H. Best, Paul Gy6rgy, N. H. Knisely, Sheila Sherlock, R. H. Turner, and Ephraim Shorr, to name but a few. The topics presented cover a wide range and include R. H. Turner's discussion of serum proteins and lipids studied by the ultracentrifuge, Sheila Sherlock's "Effect of Insulin on the Liver in the Normal and in the Diabetic," and K. R. Hill's "Liver Disease in Jamaican Children." Such a compilation is mandatory reading for those working along these particular segments of the research perimeter and is strongly recommended for those doing related work.

متن کاملQuantitative trait loci influencing cholesterol and phospholipid phenotypes map to chromosomes that contain genes regulating blood pressure in the spontaneously hypertensive rat.
The frequent coincidence of hypertension and dyslipidemia suggests that related genetic factors might underlie these common risk factors for cardiovascular disease. To investigate whether quantitative trait loci (QTLs) regulating lipid levels map to chromosomes known to contain genes regulating blood pressure, we used a genome scanning approach to map QTLs influencing cholesterol and phospholip...
متن کاملA survey to evaluate the association between blood lead level and blood pressure among workers employed in factory manufacturing lead acid-storage batteries
Background: There are many controversies reported about the association between blood lead levels and blood pressure among lead exposed workers. Studies have suggested incorporating lifestyle factors along with blood lead levels. The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of lead exposure on blood pressure changes among lead exposed workers in contemplation of lifestyle factors. Mater...
متن کاملRegulation of the pulmonary circulation.
Factors regulating pressure and flow in the lungs are reviewed with particular emphasis on their role in regulating blood flow velocity and distribution within the lung capillaries. The behaviour of the pulmonary arterial, system, alveolar capillaries, and pulmonary venous system are considered individually. The effect of heart disease on lung capillary blood flow is examined.
